MIDSUMMER NEWSLETTER

The summer school holidays are looming........ and wishfully, some fine weather to play golf together and enjoy our great Scottish golf courses.

What’s happening in P&K ?

The Noah’s Ark coaching under Niall McGill’s expert eye has concluded.
The ladies’ committee had hoped for a better take up of these six hours of personal golf tuition, however, I’m certain the girls who attended will have benefitted and thanks to the parents, who brought them.

The intermediate coaching continues at The Golf Academy, Gleneagles under another expert eye of Matthew Galley. There are now four sessions left to run;
Sunday 10th July, Sunday 31st July, Sunday 14th August and Sunday 3rd September ( a change).
These coaching sessions with Matthew and his team are good fun and designed for you to improve your golf game and “get more out of the game”. So, try not to miss them.

2016 Gleneagles Scholarship Girls: Katy Alexander, Megan Ashley, Kirsty Brodie and Amy Mitchell
These County girls along with Zoe Morton, Shannon Pook and Katriona Taylor have benefitted from the scholarship and are all enjoying playing golf, reducing their handicaps and having success on the fairways........congratulations.

Important change to 2016 P&K County Girls Championship
As this year’s championship, due to be played on “The Wee Course” Blairgowrie on Sunday, 22nd May was cancelled, the ladies’ committee has come up with a substitute “cunning plan” Here it is:
The scratch and handicap championships will be awarded on the basis of an “Order of Merit “ amongst those participating in the P&K County Ladies’ fixtures and the junior County Opens. So enter as many of these events as possible and improve your chances of success.

Here are the websites to investigate for details :
pandklcga.blogspot.com/fixtures.html
perthandkinrosscountygolf.net

The secretary for the County is David Ramsay and he will be happy to explain the “Race to Kings Barnes” Junior Bell Trophy and any other junior open on their website.

Finally our own revised fixtures 2016.

Sunday 21st August, North of Scotland County Girls Championship
Your County is the host this year and our STRATHMORE GOLF CENTRE is the venue. Girls from Northern Counties, Aberdeen, Angus and Perth &Kinross are eligible to play at scratch and handicap level. Excited? Well I have enclosed an entry form and......the more of you that enters the bigger the prizes! Andy Murray is a millionaire you know! And ......the food is great at Strathmore. If you have a current handicap....what’s stopping you?

Sunday 28th August, Milnathort, McPherson Medals
This has not changed. Milnathort is a delightful 9 holer in our County and not to be missed. The thing about playing 9 holers is of course your “second service” in the second nine!

Sunday 11th September, Drysdale and Karyn Dallas Trophies
This has been rearranged from 12th August....still at Alyth... tee times start from 10am and our own Megan Thom, of course won the P&K County Ladies Handicap Championship here in May .

Ok gals! Lets get golfing!

I am your junior convenor and don’t hesitate to contact me with any of your golfing queries.

Yours,

GIRLS' COACHING SUMMER 2016

Scottish Golf is delighted to announce a programme of on-course coaching events for girls this summer.
Building on the SLGA Golf Girls programme first run in 2015, this is an opportunity for girls to come together and play with others of a similar age, to break down some of the barriers which limit their enjoyment of the game and ultimately can see them giving up the sport.
The programme is aimed at girls aged between nine and 16 who have been playing golf for at least a year or are at stage two of the ClubGolf programme, and who may or may not yet have a handicap. It is designed to give the girls a great experience so they will continue to develop their game, get their handicap, and play the game for life!
We want to encourage girls who may feel isolated in their club to continue playing golf by giving them the chance to make friends from other clubs. The on-course coaching is aimed at building confidence, empowering girls to come together to play and in turn, compete in competitions. We want the girls to feel part of a wider community by linking these events to the #ThisGirlGolfs national campaign.
Initially, we are organising 10 regional sessions focussing on quality, on-course coaching delivered by locally-based PGA professionals who have experience of working with youngsters through ClubGolf and the Development Centres programme. These four-hour events will also include time for the girls to get to know each other, socialise and build relationships.
The professionals will then organise and run further sessions during the summer to keep the groups of girls together and energised, supported by volunteer level two qualified ClubGolf coaches.
We will also extend an invitation to all the participants to come along to the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open or Scottish Open with a family member, giving them the chance to meet girls from other parts of the country and be inspired by the professionals on the course.
The programme, venues and coaches will be promoted through our digital platforms, with direct communications to our ClubGolf clubs and coaches, so they can encourage young golfers to take part. We would be delighted if you are able to promote this fantastic opportunity for young girls in your county.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Clare Queen, who also coordinated last year’s programme, at c.queen@scottishgolf.org or 07812 665161.

JUNIOR NEWS FROM SCOTTISH GIRLS OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

It was good to meet some of the County's newest recruits and their mums at Noah's Ark on Friday.

Niall McGill welcomed Mollie Castle, Georgia McKay and Ailie Ross-Oliver. The girls immediately got down to swinging their 7 irons at a big basket of golf balls, whilst Niall assessed their methods.  Each girl then worked on an individual aspect of their golf game before finishing the coaching session with some valuable putting techniques.

The next session will be Sunday 1st May, 10am at Noah's Ark and hopefully there will be a full turn out of six girls.

Meanwhile up at Strathmore Golf Centre Kirsty Brodie, Zoe Morton, Megan Ashley and Amy Mitchell were competing in the Scottish Girls (under 18) Golf Open (6th, 7th and 8th April). This was a strong representation from our County girls amongst a field of competitors from UK, Norway, Germany, Denmark, etc and even one girl from Dubai. The format is 18 holes stroke play each day with the top 60 qualifying for the final stroke play round on Friday.

Kirsty played on the final day and finished 18th equal with a total of 222. The winner was Emily Price from England on 213. Our congratulations to our County girls and well done Amy Mitchell, who had a late call up to play in the Championship and after carding a 77 on day two, only narrowly missed playing in the final 60.
