MEGAN LOSES OUT AT STRATHMORE CHAMPIONSHIP
Junior Member Megan Aird was the first ever girl to reach the finals of the Strathmore Junior Championship on Sunday afternoon and I was very pleased to referee what was an excellent match played by two very talented, polite and courteous young people.
The other finalist was defending champion Allan Easton who was the eventual winner of the day. Allan also reached the Gents Club Championship final this year and although did not go on to win he was the first junior to take part in the final. Yesterday Allan played some tremendous golf and finished in style with a 3 on the ladies par 5 14th. Allan was only 1 over par. Megan had reached the green in two but Allan closed out the match by chipping in. Megan played beautifully throughout the match with 2 excellent birdies on 3 and 10 and her play off the tee was superb.
Both players conducted themselves in manner they should both be very proud of. There was no displays of bad temper or sulks and even after losing a ball Megan walked back to the tee quite happily. It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon in their company.
Congratulations to Megan for her achievement in reaching the final.

Congratulations to junior member Erin Millar who reduced her handicap in the recent Autumn meeting at Pitlochry to 21. Erin also had a super round in the Butter Cup scoring a scratch 88 (css 70). Erin started the season at 33 and has obviously been playing really well having also won the Handicap section of the Highland week at Pitlochry. Keep it up Erin!

Congratulations to Junior member Patricia Mennie (Auchterarder) who excelled at the County Girls Golf day organised by the SLGA at Brucefields Golf Centre in Stirling on Sunday. The national Coach Kevin Craggs staged on range coaching, a par three competition and a competition over nine holes. Patricia scored a nett 31 in the nine hole competition - the best score of the day attended by junior girls from all over Scotland. Patricia also had a hole in one on the par three course. Well done Patricia!
Also selected to attend from P & K were Megan Aird (Strathmore), Ailie Burnett (Dunkeld & Birnam) and Lauren Marchbank (Auchterarder). Patricia said that she had enjoyed the experience very much and that the coaching she received has helped her considerably.

Our Intermediate group of juniorgirls had their first coaching session today at Noah's Ark. The weather was chilly and blowy but the girls kept warm by hitting lots of balls on the range. The professional, Nial McGill, assessed each girl individually and filmed their swing and put them on to a DVD for the girls to take home and study. He also gave them changes to their technique to work on. Thanks to Junior Convener Carol and her daughter Gwen who supervised and encouraged the girls in the chilly conditions. The girls, pictured with Niall McGill are left to right Erin Millar, Pitlochry, Emily Aird, Strathmore, new member Laura Aitken, Killin, Rachel Clark, Strathmore, Jennifer Smith, Milnathort and Louise Campbell, Craigie Hill.

Congratulations to County squad member Eve Muirhead but for fantastic success in her other sport - curling. The team is coached by Sheila Swan. Congratulations from Perth & Kinross County Association to the whole team!
Elite Coaching
Sunday 11th March saw the first session of coaching at Gleneagles for our Elite Junior Squad.
Weather, as usual, was cold and wet but our spirits were not dampened.
Laura Campbell, Lauren Marchbank and Patricia Mennie arrived bright and early for the 9am session and after a welcoming introduction by Stewart, demonstrated their potential on the range. Stewart and Andrew then gave the girls individual lessons where their swings were captured on DVD for future study.
The two and a half hours passed very quickly and the girls have some useful points to work on for their next lesson.
The afternoon group comprised Megan Aird, Caitlin Bartrop and Ailie Burnett these girls are also showing great potential and will hopefully soon be knocking at the door of the senior squad.
I managed to take a photo of the morning group

County Squad member Annabel Niven (Crieff) was selected for SLGA Winter Training - Under 15s Squad - this is what she says about her experiences -
"I was lucky enough to be selected for Scottish coaching. This kept me motivated during the winter months and it was very beneficial. I enjoyed both my weekends I went to and had good fun. We covered all aspects of the game, including short game, long game and we also played 9 holes on the course both weekends. We also covered statistics and general preparation for competitions. All the things that I learnt will be useful for the future and I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend. "
Well done Annabel!
